How Do Type Multipliers Work?

When a Pokémon has two types, the effectiveness of a move is determined by multiplying both type interactions:

Examples:

1. Swampert (Water/Ground) vs. Grass

  • Grass is super effective vs both Water and Ground → 2.0x × 2.0x = 4x damage

2. Swampert vs. Electric

  • Ground is immune to Electric → 0x total damage (even though Water is weak to it)

3. Swampert vs. Water

  • Water is super effective vs Ground (2.0x) but resisted by Water-type (0.5x)
  • Multiplier = 2.0 × 0.5 = 1x (neutral damage)

Just multiply the effects. If one type is immune (0x), total damage is 0x. If both are weak (2x), it becomes 4x.

Pro Trainer Tips

  • Use Flying-types to dodge Ground moves (they’re immune!)
  • Always check for double weaknesses when fighting dual-types
  • Learn your own type weaknesses before building a competitive team
